HIKING: Colorado Trail / Junction Creek

← CO SOUTH FORK SAN MIGUEL RIVER OPHIR CO Triple Blaze →

Description

This route is the southwestern terminus of the famous Colorado Trail. It's a great out-and-back from the Junction Creek Trailhead, or keep going and you can backpack for days.
This well-maintained, and at times popular, trail will keep you climbing for 9 miles up the mountain until you reach a high point. Enjoy the views from up there because you'll have earned them!

Directions

Driving north through Durango, turn left (west) onto 25th Street. This becomes

Junction Street and then becomes Junction Creek Road. The mileage and map

for this route begins at the second (smaller) trailhead where the road switches

back and starts to climb. This allows you to avoid some of the families and dog-

walkers that use the lower section of the trail.
